TRAINING

SEADOG strives to promote the consistency and credibility of commercial diving qualifications and complies with the Diving Advisory Boards training standards, assessments and codes of practice .

It is your responsibility to ensure that before enrolling with a registered training facility that it abides by all relevant acts and regulations in carrying out commercial diving.

The quality control nature of SEADOG offers certainty to a student and to an employer  that students are thoroughly and properly trained in all aspects by the appropriately trained staff.

SEADOG has demanding entry requirements in compliance with ongoing quality assurance and strongly recommends that all training commences with SEADOG at Class IV level.

SEADOG reserves the right to assess candidates from other training facilities at fixed rates prior to allowing them to continue with "Continuation training". 

SEADOG ensures that during training the focus is on the ability to perform certain skills at a particular level of safety, productively and within legal prescripts.

 

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this outcome based modular training scheme is to ensure the learner diver is capable and competent to dive safely as a commercial diver for the Class to which he has been trained.

COURSE OPTIONS

There are three levels of commercial diver training offered by SEADOG Commercial Diving School, namely:

  1. Class IV – SCUBA Diving up to 30m (Equivalent to HSE Part 4/ ADAS Part 1) – 4 weeks
  2. Class III – SSDE Inshore up to 30m (Equivalent to HSE Part 3 / ADAS Part 2)  - 4 weeks
  3. Class II – SSDE Offshore up to 50m (Equivalent to HSE Part 1 / ADAS Part 3) (IMCA Recognized Certificate) – 4 weeks

Each level of training takes 4 weeks to complete and the levels are progressive. You must complete a four(4) week Class IV course before undertaking and four (4) week Class III, and you must undertake Class IV and III before undertaking a Four(4) week Class II training.

  • Watermanship:                    07H00 – 08H00
  • Lecture Sessions:                 09H00 – 13H00
  • Practical Sessions:               14H00 – 18H00
  • Seagoing Days:                    07h00 – 17H00

PRE-REQUISITES:

The following is a minimum, prior to commencement of diver training.

  1. Be at least 18 years of age.
  2. A valid, in-date commercial diving medical certificate performed by a designated Diving medical Practitioner.
  3. Be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, decimals and fractions, calculate percentages, and solve simple formulas, i.e. gas laws.
  4. Competent in the English Language - understand written and verbal communications in English and be able to communicate with other people.
  5. Be a competent swimmer:
    1. 300m freestyle swim
    2. 20 second breath hold
    3. 25m underwater swim
    4. 5m underwater object recovery
    5. 1 minute water treading
  6. MODULAR TRAINING 

    Training is addressed under the following areas depending on the level of training

    1. Watermanship
    2. Seamanship
    3. Academics and Hazard Identification Risk Assessments
    4. Practical Diving Skills training
    5. Emergency Procedure training
    6. Subsea Tools and Construction Training
    7. Chamber attendant/Operator
    8. Compressor Operator (HP/LP)

    ASSESSMENTS

    1. Formative assessments – These continuous assessment form part of the instructional process and SEADOG uses assignments, workbooks and completion of portfolio of evidence to assist students achieve, targeted standards-based learning goals within a set time frame.
    2. Summative Assessments - Standardized tests such as government (DOL) assessments. They are used as an accountability measure that is generally used as part of the grading process. All students are required to complete a set of DOL examinations at the end of each Class.

    CERTIFICATES RECEIVED

    Certificates received on completion of a 12 week Class II programme would include:

    1. Class IV Certificate
    2. Practical Diving First Aid - Level one
    3. DAN oxygen Administration
    4. Class III  certificate
    5. DAN Neurological Assessment
    6. Chamber Attendant
    7. Class II  Certificate
    8. Chamber Operators

    GOVERNMENT TICKETS ISSUED

    1. Class IV  DOL Ticket
    2. Class III DOL Ticket
    3. Class II DOL Ticket(Note South African DOL Class II ticket is recognized by IMCA– Ref: IMCA D05/10)
