How the Programme Works
Step 1: Complete Theory Online
The theory component is completed online independently before practical training begins.
This includes modules on diving terms, physics, physiology, first aid, oxygen administration, and more.
Step 2: Attend Practical Training On-Site
The practical component is conducted on-site at The Academy of Diving and Offshore Medicine
or another approved commercial diving school. This hands-on phase develops real-world competence in the use of SCUBA equipment,
emergency management, and safe dive execution.
Practical training fees are invoiced separately by The Academy of Diving for EFT / SWIFT payment.
Entry Requirements
- Minimum age: 18 years
- Independent English User (minimum IELTS 5–6 / CEFR B2)
- Understand and able to do basic math
- Course fees paid in full
- Correct visa requirements and return flight dates
- Dive medically fit (SAUHMA)
- Watermanship fit (able to swim 200m freestyle with no buoyancy aid in under 8 minutes)

The prerequisite online theory is to be completed prior to practical onsite training.
Even if a practical intake is fully booked, you can still start your theory training online NOW to be prepared for 2027 practical training in the 2027 calendar year

Certification and Skills
Graduates of the Class IV programme are certified as commercial SCUBA divers and are equipped to work with SCUBA equipment in shallow-water operations, manage emergencies, and execute safe dives.

This programme aligns to the QCTO curriculum for Diver (Commercial) (684101001) and supports the SAQA Occupational Certificate: Class 4 Commercial Scuba Diver (SAQA ID 110370, NQF Level 4) (DoEL Class IV).
Exit Level Outcomes are achieved through training and assessment that develops competence in safe inshore commercial SCUBA operations, dive planning and equipment setup, executing routine and emergency dives, surface support processes, and post-dive documentation and equipment maintenance.
