Knowledge: Explain the purpose, correct selection, fitting, and safe use of surface swimming equipment, PPE, personal gear (mask, snorkel, fins, knife, weight belt), diving suits, harness systems, and basic care and maintenance requirements, including common hazards caused by incorrect use or poor equipment condition.
Skills: Demonstrate correct personal equipment competence by selecting appropriate equipment for conditions, fitting gear correctly, conducting readiness checks, and applying safe handling and maintenance practices for operational use.

Objective: Develop the knowledge and practical skills required to identify, operate, and maintain commercial SCUBA systems safely and effectively in Class IV commercial diving environments.
Knowledge: Explain the key components and functions of commercial SCUBA systems including cylinders (steel vs aluminium), valves, regulators (first and second stages), pressure gauges, buoyancy compensators, SCUBA limitations, legislative requirements, preventative maintenance practices, filling and storage rules, corrosion risks, inspection requirements, and safety flash lessons that prevent equipment failure and injury.
Skills: Demonstrate SCUBA equipment competence by applying correct selection and use procedures, performing pre-dive equipment checks, identifying unsafe conditions or faults, implementing safe cylinder handling and storage practices, and applying preventative maintenance and safety controls to support operational readiness.
